Thumbs Up for the Supporters Trust
Brakes supporters held an open meeting last Thursday to gauge support for and vote on forming a Supporters Trust.
Attended by Jacqui Forster of Supporters Direct and Mark Evans from the Merthyr Tydfil Supporters Trust, fans voted overwhelmingly to set up a new body. A steering group will now be formed to kick start the process.
The meeting recognised the contribution of Brakes supporters groups of the past, the Friends of Leamington Football Club (FOLFC) and the current Supporters Club (LFCSC) which have helped build the football club into what it is today. A supporters trust will be a natural progression as the fans’ representative body as the football club moves through the non-league pyramid.
The initial aims of the trust are to ensure a better presence in the local community, meet the needs of all Brakes supporters and to acquire a stakeholding in the football club through buying shares. Supporters trusts are well established around the country and make a significant contribution to football. The best run trusts are not only major assets to the football club, but to activities within the wider local community.
The steering group is seeking people with a variety of skills and anyone interested in joining can make contact through the website at trust@lfcsc.com or by telephoning Pete Davis on 07793 741344.
